An email on 2nd March stating that Melbourne
Buffers had decided to invite a second
team from South Africa for the Melbourne
tournament set the wheels in motion for
the huge undertaking for raising funds
in order that we could participate in
Australia.
I contacted Mahedew Singh informing of
the offer I had received.Mahedew and I
were on the previous trip with Barnsley
in 2005 and we really enjoyed the experience
and we decided we would assemble a team
to take up the challenge.
A meeting held on my site the next day
which gave birth to what we now know is
the “DURBAN BUFFERS”. Graham
Mactavish was the first on board, followed
by Sean Bouverie, who we hijacked while
driving past. We put forward our intensions
to him and he was on board.Mahedew was
jotting down names we thought were guys
capable of putting this trip together.
By mid march we had our first meeting
and realized the magnitude of the task
that lies ahead. The logistics of forming
a team, fundraising, and booking tickets
ECT, began to seem a bridge to far. But
with the excitement dedication and spirit
amongst the guys this trip had brought,
our first fund raising dance was held.
Thereafter was only one aim, WOZA! AUSTRALIA.
Having said all of the above, I would
be failing in my duty if I do not emphasize
the role the local business community
played in making this trip possible. To
all those business who contributed to
our cause, on behalf of all those associated
with DURBAN BUFFERS, we say a big thank
you and wish you every think of the best
in your future business endeavors
To all others who contributed, no matter
how large or small, we want to thank you
in proving that what seems like a pipe
dream became a hugely successful reality
